The adventure starts with a short 12-minute ferry journey from scenic Cobh across the world’s 2nd largest natural harbour, where you might spot seals, sea birds and occasional dolphins! Fota Wildlife Park’s Education Centre is one of the biggest in Ireland and can host up to 200 students a day. Their Primary School Tour was created to give students a greater appreciation of wildlife, our courses are suitable for students from Junior Infants up to 6th class. The content is simplified or made more challenging depending on the age group, but is based on Irish education syllabus requirements and can be tailored to compliment any work being done in the classroom.
Students are given a Guided Tour of the Park and taken through basic terms such as Feeding Behaviours, Habitats and Threats. They are also given details about individual animals in an effort to make the experience as relevant as possible. Ecology is touched on by spending time in the Woodland areas while a Play approach to Learning is taken with smaller children. Perfectly situated on the island’s banks within the natural environment of Fota Island Resort-Fota Adventure is exactly what you’re looking for when it comes to a day of excitement. With a wide range of outdoor activities available, your adventure awaits. Their school tours are 4.5hrs long and are a moveable feast depending on your schedule. They can start and finish based on what suits you and your travel time best. They take approximately 120 students at a time, and a normal tour would involve shelter building, fire lighting and marshmallow cooking in the survival skills area.
